I think it's good to have some resentment at the end of a relationship. It provides a good source of motivation to move on emotionally, and you can channel those negative emotions into something constructive.

Love isn't a feeling or emotion. It's a pattern of behavior demonstrated over a period of time. The needs of our partners extend beyond what a platonic relationship can provide, and love is the act of fulfilling those needs.

You aren't wrong. I've seen those things myself. I figured out why I didn't drink in college and why I related to women so poorly for so many years. But those insights weren't given to me by my parents. I figured them out for myself, and I decided to do something about them. One I validated for my own reasons, and the other I changed.

You're wrong. Getting to know your parents as an adult can certainly contribute to your personal growth. The more I get to know my dad, the more I understand the pieces of him that are in me. I always thought I was more like my mom, but the older I get, the more I see how much my father and I are alike.

Our lifestyle and values are an extension of the way our parents raised us. Once we're adults, they can offer support, attention, and validation, but they can no longer offer anything for personal growth. We have to decide for ourselves how we will live.
